Under the Influence of Flavour
Under the Influence had the privilege, nay the honour, of hosting a tasting for the Mitchells Joburg team and some friends and colleagues on Friday evening. It was a toned down affair, a picture of some of the Guests follows below.
The theme was chosen, Under the Influence of Flavour, where we took a journey through flavour in wine, understanding the grape, the barrel and terroir, amongst other things wine (un)related.
The lineup of wine included:
- Tierhoek Sauvignon Blanc – one of the First Growth Estates (check out the video interview with the winemaker here)
- Raats Original Chenin Blanc – another First Growth Estate champion! See the video interview with Bruwer Raats here.
- Lammershoek Roulette Blanc – another First Growth and a wine that we absolutely adore! Meet the winemaker here.
- Amani Merlot 2007 – a beautiful vino from the Polkadraai Hills in Stellenbosch
- Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon – a wine showing true influence of their unique mountainous terroir
- Graceland Three Graces – a remarkable blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz with loads of dark fruit and lovely dark chocolate flavours. Some American Oak perhaps?
- Lammershoek Roulette – the wild, untamed, delicious blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Carignan and Viognier (I am probably missing something!)
The evening was high energy, loads of fun and a great exploration of some of South Africa’s leading wines. Looking forward to more in the future!
