This is a stunning blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon from this tiny Elgin property. The wine shows lovely plummy fruit, soft tannin and a beautiful long finish. It has integrated really well over the last year and is drinking exceptionally well now.

The Little Merlot is a wine that emphasizes the fruity side of this variety. It regularly convinces with fresh berry flavours and a silky texture and offers early drinking pleasure.

The Little Merlot is the little brother of the Bein Merlot, hence the name. It is vinified with the same care and style, though matured in third and fourth fill barrels. It is made up from batches deriving from the more vigorous parts of our vineyard, from younger vines or from barrel regimes, which haven’t been included in our flagship Merlot. And like the latter, it is complemented with a splash of Cabernet.

This wine is a delicious, fresh white blend with intense fruit and a mineral finish. An incredible wine.

This wine embodies freshness, balance and great drinkability! Grapes for the 2009 Kloof Street red were sourced from six vineyard parcels in different parts of the Swartland: One parcel of Mourvedre grown on the rolling, iron-rich soils west of Malmesbury; one parcel of Syrah and one parcel of Cinsault planted in the stony Shale and Schist based soils of Riebeek Kasteel Mountain; and one parcel of dry land, bushvine Syrah, one Carignan, and one Grenache all grown in the decomposed Granite of the Paardeberg mountain. Vines are aged between 12 and 40 years.

This wine is a blend of 88 % Shiraz and 12 % Mourvèdre, both varieties from Tokara’s Stellenbosch property on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. The nose of this wine is an interesting mix of bright pure fruit; mulberries and blackberries; and heady spicy notes with notes of five spice, with a floral undertone. The tannins are firm and the wine leaves with a sense of freshness.

The Lammershoek Roulette Blanc made a very big impression on us and our fellow tasters at Under the Influence tasters this year. It is a big white wine, full of fruit, and a honey and citrus aroma. What makes it a beauty, however, is its mineral and fresh finish, creating sublime balance in the wine. This wine can only get better as it settles in the bottle.

The Bein Merlot is a Merlot in classic Pomerol style, elegant and complex. It is Bein’s flagship, the optimal synthesis from the wines of our various batches, reflecting best the integrated terroir of our cool southern slope. This wine strives for perfect balance between primary fruit and sweet-spicy barrel flavours.

This Merlot is matured for one year in small 225L oak barrels, of which between 35% and 70% are new, made up of about 95% tight-grain Oak from central France, and about 5% American oak for complexity. The Bein Merlot is generally complemented with a splash of one of the other classic Bordeaux varieties, usually Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet franc, sometimes even Malbec or Petit Verdot, depending on the vintage.

The cool growing conditions result in a minerality and wonderful natural acidity in the wine. A limited amount is produced from 2½ ha. In order to retain the complex array of flavours form the vineyard, oak barrels are only used to complement these flavours. 50% of the wine is wild fermented in French oak of which only 20% is new wood. Careful stirring of the leese gives a rich, concentrated mouthfeel. The wine does not go through malolactic fermentation and retains the natural fruit flavour and fresh lemony acidity with a rich, creamy mouthfeel.

The secret to this Straw Wine is harvesting grapes at normal ripeness levels to capture a healthy acidity, which is concentrated along with the intense Chenin Blanc flavors, and sugar into a super intense, but balanced treat.
