Iona Chardonnay 2009
Six bottle case. R156 per bottle.
The cool growing conditions result in a minerality and wonderful natural acidity in the wine. A limited amount is produced from 2½ ha. In order to retain the complex array of flavours form the vineyard, oak barrels are only used to complement these flavours. 50% of the wine is wild fermented in French oak of which only 20% is new wood. Careful stirring of the leese gives a rich, concentrated mouthfeel. The wine does not go through malolactic fermentation and retains the natural fruit flavour and fresh lemony acidity with a rich, creamy mouthfeel.
