Under the Influence is proud to present a range of wine experiences hosted in the tasting room situated in Stans Halt, adjacent to the Roundhouse restaurant. We welcome you to join us at all or any of the following wine tasting experiences:
Under the Influence of Flavour: The Wine Discovery Mini Course
Wednesday 6th May, 13th May, 20th May and 27th May
The Wine Discovery Mini Course is a journey through flavour in wine and is a superb way to brush up on the basics while tasting beautiful wines. Wine is all about flavour, so in this mini course we look at three types of flavour; Primary fruit driven flavours, Secondary oak induced flavours and Tertiary bottle age flavours. Come and get Under the Influence of great wine with us.

Under the Influence of the Rhone in South Africa
Thursday 7th May
South Africa has really developed unique Rhone origin wines over the last years, including Shiraz, Viognier and Grenache. In this taste experience we explore the Rhone valley in South Africa, taking cooler climate examples from Elgin and move to the warmer regions of Stellenbosch and Swartland, finally finishing in the Rhone itself tasting a selection of wines from there. Wines to be tasted include Rudera Syrah, Stark Conde, Ernie Els Cirrus, Waterford Kevin Arnold Shiraz, Lismore Viognier and the Fairview Jakkalsfontein Shiraz.

Under the Influence of Bordeaux in South Africa
Thursday 14th May
South Africa has a rich heritage in producing Bordeaux style blends and individual varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. In this tasting we explore various wines from different regions in South Africa understanding Bordeaux in South Africa and how we have developed our own styles from different terroir. Wines that we will taste include Cederberg Cabernet Sauvignon, Graceland Merlot, Rust en Vrede Merlot, Graham Beck The Andrew, Glen Carlou Grand Classique and Rustenberg John X Merriman.

Under the Influence of Elgin
Thursday 21st May
Elgin has been touted as the new and exciting region to watch in South Africa. It is a much cooler region than most in South Africa and has a richness in terroir, from slopes to soil. This tasting aims to uncover the taste of Elgin. Just what makes this region special and what influence does its terroir have on the flavour of the wine at the end of the day? We will explore wines from Paul Cluver, Iona, Oak Valley, Belfield, Arumdale, Highlands Road and Paul Wallace, to name a few and understand more about this region.

Under the Influence of Italy
Thursday 28th May
Italy is home to over 2000 different varietals, from the cool climates of the north to the blazing heat and coastal influence of the south. In this wine experience we will take a journey through Italian and South African (Italian inspired) wines, depicting the varietals and styles of different regions. Wines to taste include; Morgenster Tosca, Fairview Barbera, Giovani Corino Barolo, Frescobaldi Chianti and a strange but beautiful Schiopettino. These will all be served with custom made canapes, to ensure a superb taste experience, and leading to a better understanding of Italian wines and just what kind of food pairs well with it.
